OPERATIONS MARKET

Customer Success Operations jobs have been steady, and higher this fall

I started tracking Operations roles in March 2026 because I saw companies adopting AI and needing somebody to own that adoption and buildout. That's where most of these roles have come from. Since March, volume has been relatively steady, with big spikes in June and August and a bit of a comedown in September, but still much higher in the fall than in the spring. It's hard to say there's a clear growing trend, but my tracking is responding to a pattern I noticed.

I found 133 Operations roles from March to September 2026: about 13 a month from March through May, and about 24 a month from June through September, peaking at 31 in August.

Operations roles per month in 2026, tracked from March: Mar 14, Apr 12, May 13, Jun 23, Jul 17, Aug 31, Sep 23.

Operations means AI

Operations is where companies are putting AI to work in Customer Success: AI enablement, workflows and automation, and scaling Customer Success without adding headcount.

In September, two out of three Operations job descriptions named AI as part of the job itself, in the title, the responsibilities, or the requirements, not just the company description. Operations also had half of all roles with AI in the title: 4 of the 8 across all 440 roles I shared in September, even though Operations is only 5% of the Job Drop. If you're targeting Operations, show how you've used AI to build workflows or automate work, not just that you use it.

Operations is not an entry point

Most Operations postings ask for 5 to 8 years of experience, and some want experience in Customer Success Operations specifically. This is a place where you bring your experience in Customer Success, implementation, or enablement, and apply a high-level builder's mindset. About half accept backgrounds in Customer Success, onboarding, implementation or enablement, not just classic sales, revenue or CS operations.

What's the market like for Customer Success Operations roles?

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

5 to 8 years

in CS, operations or enablement

SALARY RANGE

$116K to $158K

Median $136,250

The median Customer Success Operations salary is $136,250, with a salary range of $116K to $158K.

This category is where I put roles that run the systems, data, programs and enablement behind a Customer Success team: CS Operations, Enablement, Business Systems, and CS Program roles.

These roles are perfect for experienced CSMs who love building process and systems, and for sales, revenue or business operations pros who want to move into Customer Success.

Things you need to know if you're targeting Customer Success Operations roles

  • There's no standard title. Almost every Operations role in September had a different title: Sales & Customer Success Operations Manager, Business Systems Analyst, Enablement Program Specialist, Customer Success Transformation, Onboarding Operations Tech Lead. If you're only searching "CS Ops," you're missing most of these roles. That's a big part of why I curate them for you in the Job Drop.

  • It's an opportunity for two kinds of experienced people. If you became the AI person on your team, even with only 2 years as a CSM, and you can prove you implemented AI, built out workflows, or led AI transformation in Customer Success, you can get this job. And if you're a leader who's feeling disillusioned with team management and wants to focus on building, that's what these roles are for. They're IC-level strategy roles.

A note on this data. Qualitative insights are based on a sample of 15 Operations job descriptions pulled in September 2026. That's a small sample, so read these as directional. Percentages are rounded and meant to show patterns, not exact counts.

About this report

Every quarter I grab the data of all jobs shared across the Job Drops and use it to inform how I’m thinking about the broader job market for Customer Success. In June, I presented the report in a live webinar. Today, I’m making the full report available to everyone.

Who put this together?

I’m Nicole St. Germain, I’m a former Director of Customer Success and I run Customer Success Jobs, a newsletter and community for Customer Success job seekers.

Where does this data come from?

Every week I share ~100 curated new jobs in Customer Success with my subscribers. I save every job I share into a database, and use it to calculate volume, salary ranges, and analyze the text of the job descriptions to understand what companies are looking for when they hire for Customer Success.

I only share US-based, remote, and salary-transparent jobs, which means that this data is not meant to be comprehensive, but a snapshot of the quality jobs on the market, and how that may be changing over time.

You can read more about my methodology in the State of the Customer Success Job Market, Fall 2026.

What's the Job Drop?

A Job Drop is the email I send 2x a week to my Subscribers. On Tuesday, I share all roles that were posted in the last 5 days, and on Thursday I share all roles that were posted in the last 24 hours.

Each Job Drop is broken up into categories across Customer Success: Mid-Career CSM, SMB & Digital CSM, Senior CSM, Strategic CSM, Associate, Break Into Success, Manager of Customer Success, Director & Head of Customer Success, VP of Customer Success, Operations, and Onboarding & Implementation.

Each Job Drop also has a section for roles based in Canada and Globally, but these roles are not included in this report or analysis.

Thursday’s Job Drops are free for all subscribers, and Tuesdays are for Insider subscribers only. Data shared in this report comes from all Job Drops.

What counts as an Operations role?

This report covers Customer Success Operations roles. A role counts as Operations when it runs the systems, data, processes or enablement behind a Customer Success team, instead of managing customers directly. I stopped tracking Operations in August 2025 and started again in March 2026, so there's no year-over-year comparison.
