BREAK INTO SUCCESS MARKET

Break Into Customer Success jobs are up 168% in 2026

Break Into Success roles grew faster than any other category this year, more than doubling.

Break Into Success roles beat 2025 every single month this year. I found 340 Break Into Success roles from January to September 2026, compared to 127 in the same months of 2025, up 168%.

Break Into Customer Success roles, more than Associate roles, are where my judgment matters most. Sorting a role here means deciding it values field expertise over Customer Success experience, and I've gotten better at finding and sorting these roles this year. Some of this growth is real, as more companies look for CSMs with healthcare or education expertise, and some of it is me getting better at finding them.

Bar chart of Break Into Success roles per month, 2026 vs 2025. 2026 beat 2025 every month: Jan 19 vs 10, Feb 25 vs 10, Mar 25 vs 9, Apr 33 vs 18, May 27 vs 13, Jun 48 vs 15, Jul 60 vs 16, Aug 51 vs 17, Sep 52 vs 19.

BY LEVEL

Break Into Customer Success levels and salaries

Break Into Success has two very different levels. Associate roles are true entry points into Customer Success. Break Into Customer Success roles are for people with expertise in another field, like healthcare or education, and they pay more because of it.

I started segmenting the Job Drop (my twice-weekly list of remote Customer Success jobs) by level so you could more easily find the right roles and so that I could better track volume and salary changes over time.

Donut of Break Into Success roles by level, July 14 to September 29, 196 jobs total: Associate 51% (100 jobs), Break Into Success 49% (96 jobs).

1 to 2 years · You're new to Customer Success, usually coming from customer service, support, or another customer-facing role.

3 to 5 years · You've worked in the customer's field, like healthcare operations or teaching, and you know their world.

A note on the level data. I started separating Break Into Success roles into levels on July 14, so the level-by-level numbers below cover about 11 weeks, July 14 to September 29. The year-over-year numbers above cover January to September 2026. Some roles are shared in both the Break Into Success section and a CSM section, so the level numbers add up to more than the category total above. Qualitative insights are based on a sample of 28 Associate and Break Into Success job descriptions pulled in September 2026. Percentages are rounded and meant to show patterns, not exact counts.

What's the market like for Associate CSMs?

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

1 to 2 years

in customer-facing roles

SALARY RANGE

$62K to $80K

Median $70,252

The median Associate CSM salary is $70,252, with a salary range of $62K to $80K.

This category is where I put entry-level roles that ask for 1 to 2 years of experience. They're often titled Associate CSM, Customer Success Specialist, or Client Success Associate, and sometimes just Customer Success Manager.

These roles are perfect for people coming from customer service, support, sales, hospitality, or another customer-facing role who are ready to move into Customer Success.

Associate roles held steady, with 33 roles in both August and September, though July averaged more roles in fewer Drops.

Timeline of Associate CSM roles by month: 34 from July 14 to 31 (partial month), 33 in August, 33 in September.

Things you need to know if you're targeting Associate CSM roles

  • Search for "client," not just "customer." About 4 in 10 Associate postings use "client" as their main word, compared with about 1 in 5 at Senior and almost none at Strategic. These roles often come from services companies or companies outside traditional SaaS, like JLL and One Inc, and the titles can be Client Success Manager, Client Account Manager, or Client Success Specialist. If you're only searching "Customer Success," you're missing roles.

  • Growing accounts is part of the job from day one. About 6 in 10 Associate postings mention upsell or expansion, usually alongside Sales. Reltio says "this role goes beyond renewals: you'll identify potential cross-sell, upsell, and add-on opportunities."

  • The title won't always say Associate. Several entry-level roles are titled Customer Success Manager, at Yelp, PowerSchool and The Fedcap Group, with pay between about $58K and $83K. Look at the years of experience and the salary to tell the level, not the title.

What's the market like for Break Into Success roles?

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

3 to 5 years

in your industry, not in CS

SALARY RANGE

$86K to $120K

Median $102,500

The median Break Into Success salary is $102,500, with a salary range of $86K to $120K.

This category is where I put roles that don't require Customer Success experience but do require hands-on experience in the customer's field, like healthcare operations, revenue cycle, or teaching. Whether a role belongs here is a judgment call I make by reading the requirements, more than at any other level.

These roles are perfect for people who have worked in healthcare operations, revenue cycle, or the classroom and want to move into tech.

Break Into Success roles climbed in September, with 37 roles vs 32 in August.

Timeline of Break Into Success roles by month: 27 from July 14 to 31 (partial month), 32 in August, 37 in September.

Things you need to know if you're targeting Break Into Success roles

  • These roles require field expertise. 8 of the 10 are in healthcare and the other 2 are in education. Instead of CS experience, they want hands-on experience in the industry: Goalbook asks for "5+ years teaching experience," Experian for "10+ years' experience in revenue cycle" in healthcare, and Vatica Health says "healthcare experience required." Only one mentions SaaS. That experience is why these pay more than Associate roles.

  • You'll be the customer expert on the team. These companies sell to people like you: teachers, clinicians, medical practices. You're there because you know how their world works. Training and onboarding show up in 8 of 10 because you're the one who speaks the customer's language. Goalbook is looking for a former "teacher or instructional coach," and Clover Health wants an "external product SME."

About this report

Every quarter I grab the data of all jobs shared across the Job Drops and use it to inform how I’m thinking about the broader job market for Customer Success. In June, I presented the report in a live webinar. Today, I’m making the full report available to everyone.

Who put this together?

I’m Nicole St. Germain, I’m a former Director of Customer Success and I run Customer Success Jobs, a newsletter and community for Customer Success job seekers.

Where does this data come from?

Every week I share ~100 curated new jobs in Customer Success with my subscribers. I save every job I share into a database, and use it to calculate volume, salary ranges, and analyze the text of the job descriptions to understand what companies are looking for when they hire for Customer Success.

I only share US-based, remote, and salary-transparent jobs, which means that this data is not meant to be comprehensive, but a snapshot of the quality jobs on the market, and how that may be changing over time.

You can read more about my methodology in the State of the Customer Success Job Market, Fall 2026.

What's the Job Drop?

A Job Drop is the email I send 2x a week to my Subscribers. On Tuesday, I share all roles that were posted in the last 5 days, and on Thursday I share all roles that were posted in the last 24 hours.

Each Job Drop is broken up into categories across Customer Success: Mid-Career CSM, SMB & Digital CSM, Senior CSM, Strategic CSM, Associate, Break Into Success, Manager of Customer Success, Director & Head of Customer Success, VP of Customer Success, Operations, and Onboarding & Implementation.

Each Job Drop also has a section for roles based in Canada and Globally, but these roles are not included in this report or analysis.

Thursday’s Job Drops are free for all subscribers, and Tuesdays are for Insider subscribers only. Data shared in this report comes from all Job Drops.

What counts as a Break Into Success role?

This report covers Break Into Success roles: Associate and Break Into Success. A role counts as Break Into Success when it doesn't require Customer Success experience, either because it's entry-level or because it values expertise from another field.
