To find success in such a tight job market, I recommend a job search strategy that targets an industry you already know. This means that you can use your Customer Success expertise as well as specific industry knowledge to be a standout applicant. Hiring teams are looking for low-risk candidates that can hit the ground running.
This is why I created the Company Shortlist. I wanted CS job seekers to be able to find companies that fit. You can sort by industry, but also hiring location, remote policy, ATS, salary. And I’ll be updating this database throughout Q1 with more data points and more companies.
Today, I pulled a few companies across 3 industries that all hire CS roles remotely, and pay at or above the market median. It took me about 2 minutes total to find these 9 companies!
Fintech
If you’ve worked in payments, lending, banking or insurance, Fintech is a natural fit. You already have context about Fintech-specific issues, like compliance or fraud.
Customer Success roles in Fintech are generally on the high-end of the salary spectrum, but they will also expect high-performing candidates. You want to be able to demonstrate success driving and saving revenue.
Affirm
A Buy Now, Pay Later platform.
Affirm is a public company, headquartered in San Francisco, CA. They hire remotely in the US, Canada and Europe.

HealthTech
HealthTech is the fastest growing Customer Success industry, but it also has something for every type of job seeker. If you wanted to work at a hyper-growth startup, or a heavily structured enterprise organization, you can find both in HealthTech. If you have a clinical, patient care background or a business background, you can find either.
HealthTech roles do tend to pay at market and sometimes below, especially if they’re trying to target care workers who are used to being underpaid. They do not necessarily expect a healthcare background, but a healthcare background at any level can be a strong advantage.

B2B
B2B is more broad than Fintech or HealthTech, but there is still value in narrowing your search to strictly B2B, or even a sub-industry of B2B. The way B2B companies buy, their expectations and how the CS org is structured to serve them is valuable context. The more you can emphasize you understand how to work with their customers, the better.
B2B tends to be a mixed bag when it comes to salaries, and it really comes down to how close the platform is to revenue, and/or whether or not it’s mission critical. The more important and revenue-producing the platform, the higher the price point and the higher the salaries.
Quicknode
A Blockchain infrastructure platform.
